AI Workshop organized on 3rd and 4th September 2025 - Valedictory

Mysuru, September 4, 2025:The valedictory function of the two-day Training Programme on Artificial Intelligence: Content Development for MOOCs, organised by the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), Mysore in collaboration with the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi, was held at the EMRC Auditorium, University of Mysore, on Thursday.

In his address, Prof. Lokanath N. K., Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, cautioned that while AI is a powerful tool, it is not infallible. “Even AI can go wrong—we must always cross-check details. AI can help us stay updated and gain better insights, but it has also created many fears. When mobile technology first arrived, many resisted it.

Today, we cannot imagine day-to-day life without it, and through mobile applications, all of us are already using AI. AI must supplement human endeavours, but the human mind should remain ultimate, rather than giving AI the upper hand,” he remarked.

Prof. Jagat Bhushan Nadda, Director, CEC, New Delhi, emphasised the Central Government’s mandate to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) to 50%. “With the present infrastructure, we can only reach about halfway. The government is not planning to establish new universities to increase GER. The only way forward is the use of AI in online education,” he stated. He further highlighted the significant role played by EMRCs across the country in developing degree programmes for the SWAYAM platform.

Expressing gratitude, Prof. Sapna M. S., Director, EMRC Mysore, thanked CEC and the University of Mysore for entrusting EMRC with the responsibility of hosting the programme. She noted that the limited number of participants was a deliberate choice to ensure quality engagement and added that local participation was particularly encouraged.

The two-day training programme brought together experts, faculty members, and practitioners who explored AI-driven tools, pedagogical practices, and ethical considerations in creating digital content for MOOCs.
