The Educational Multimedia Research Centre, Mysuru is one of the twenty one media centres in India, established in 1995 as Audio Visual Research Centre (AVRC) to disseminate knowledge through audio-visual medium with the following objectives.
It was renamed as Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) in 2004 as the responsibility of the centre got diversified. It entered the sphere of Multimedia from electronic media to develop e-content with multimedia inputs for various digital platforms and run Virtual Education Classroom operation through EDUSAT Network. The educational videos of the centre are beamed on 24 hour Higher Educational Channel (GD-Vyas).
In addition, the centre is currently focusing on MOOCs online courses offered through an ICT platform that enables students to access high quality video lectures, reading resources; allows them to participate in discussion forums; take tests and also earn academic grades. MOOCs may either be credit or certificate based under semester system.
EMRC Mysore has successfully produced a good number of programmes in various disciplines like Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, Law and Linguistics and has bagged more than two dozen awards. With this unbeaten record EMRC is marching further in the field of visual communication by making all the programmes available to the students on the World Wide Web.
