Farewell to Dr. Ganta Ravi Kumar

Dr. Ganta Ravi Kumar, Director of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), University of Mysore, retired today after completing 29 years of dedicated service. Throughout his distinguished career, he made significant contributions to educational media, digital learning, and the growth of EMRC, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the academic community.

Over the years, he shouldered the responsibility of coordinating the Electronic Media Course conducted by EMRC, University of Mysore, for a major part of the period between 2007 and 2016. He played a vital role in the successful administration of the programme, mentoring students and contributing to its effective implementation. He also made notable contributions to the production of the educational television programme "Glimpses of Karnataka," which showcased the rich cultural, historical, and educational heritage of the State.

Some of the high points of his illustrious career include his leadership in producing several acclaimed educational documentaries and academic programmes. Among his notable works are the documentaries on Dr. Raja Ramanna, Baba Kalyani, and the Human Genome Project, as well as the development of the Human Genetics MOOC. These productions reflect his commitment to promoting science, technology, and higher education through quality educational media.

To mark the occasion, the EMRC staff organized a warm and memorable farewell ceremony in his honour. Members of the staff shared their experiences of working with Dr. Ravi Kumar, highlighting his inspiring leadership, humility, approachable nature, and spontaneous attitude. They fondly recalled his unwavering support, guidance, and commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

The gathering was filled with heartfelt tributes, expressions of gratitude, and fond memories celebrating his remarkable journey at EMRC. Dr. Ravi Kumar's wife and son were also present at the farewell ceremony and joined the EMRC family in marking this significant milestone.
