Mysuru, May 21: The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), University of Mysore, observed National Anti-Terrorism Day with a pledge-taking ceremony aimed at reaffirming the nation’s collective resolve against terrorism and violence.

Prof. Sapna, Director of EMRC, led the staff members in observing the day, emphasizing the importance of national unity and peace. Mr. Lokesh recited the official Anti-Terrorism Day pledge, which highlights the Indian tradition of non-violence and tolerance and calls for opposition to all forms of terrorism.

The pledge read:

“We, the people of India, having abiding faith in our country's tradition of non-violence and tolerance, hereby solemnly affirm to oppose with our strength all forms of terrorism and violence. We pledge to uphold and promote peace, social harmony and understanding among all fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values.”

National Anti-Terrorism Day is observed annually on May 21 to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in a terrorist attack in 1991. The day serves as a solemn reminder of the devastating consequences of terrorism and the importance of fostering harmony in society.

As part of the nationwide observance, government offices and public institutions take the pledge to counter terrorism and uphold peace. The EMRC Mysore's observance aligns with this national call to action, reinforcing the institution's commitment to promoting awareness, peace, and resilience against divisive forces.
